Best Things To Do In Luckenbach

The tiny town where “Everybody’s Somebody”, population of merely 3, is a Texas must do! Known for it’s live music and laid back atmosphere, this town is a great addition to a Texas Hill Country road trip. Here are the best things to do in Luckenbach.

Where is it?

Located on FM 1376 in the Texas Hill Country. Luckenbach is about a 15 minute drive outside of Fredericksburg. If coming from Austin or San Antonio, it’s around an hour and a half drive.

Parking is free!

Brief History:

Luckenbach was settled by German immigrants in the mid-1800’s as a trading post. The town was named after one of it’s founders, Jacob Luckenbach.

The famous Post Office was established in 1886 and is still standing today as a General Store / Bar. The community became unincorporated in 1970 when the post master retired.

Hondo Crouch and a few others purchased Luckenbach to create a laid back place where locals and legends can play music. Willie Nelson, Jerry Jeff Walker and Waylon Jennings helped put Luckenbach on the map. There’s even a song about Luckenbach!

Enjoy the Live Music

Music is what made Luckenbach famous. It’s Country all day everyday! Or so I’ve heard. We came early on a weekday morning and no one was playing yet. The nights and weekends are definitely the best time to enjoy this place. Check their website for the most up to date performance info.

Snap Pics

There’s so many cool photo opportunities here! The Post Office, license plate wall, stage with fake guitars, all the signs, and the kissing booth! Just to name a few!

The Kissing Booth

There’s not too many places where kissing is almost required. So grab your significant other and smooch in the kissing booth! Makes for a cute photo!

Browse The General Store

This is where to buy all the Luckenbach souvenirs! It’s worth going in even if you don’t plan on buying anything. There’s an old cash register in the front that’s pretty cool. Walk towards the back to check out the saloon! Plus there’s a cat or two roaming around.

Drink

This is the perfect atmosphere to grab a cold one and relax while listening to music.

Dance

Music plus beer equals dancing right?!? Definitely the most fun on the list! When the Dance Hall is open take advantage of it! Check out the website to find out who’s performing and grab a ticket.

Eat

Grab a bite to eat at the Luckenbach Feed Lot. They’ve got almost everything a hungry person desires. Burgers, hot dogs, frito pie, etc.

Or bring items to have a picnic on the beautiful property! There are so many huge trees you can sit under to enjoy a meal while listening to music.
