Are you a thrill seeker or at least a wanna be thrill seeker? If so, zip-lining is a MUST!! You need to try it at least once. I’m sure you’ll be hooked and want to do it again and again! Here are my best zip-lining tips for first timers.
But first, is it safe?
While there is always a risk of something happening, for the most part this is an extremely fun and safe activity. The companies have to thoroughly test out the zip lines before opening and allowing people on them.
Is zip-lining scary?
The first time you jump off the platform will probably be scary, because you’ve never experienced it before. The platforms can be fairly high up and you’ll have to trust the tour guide that everything will be okay when you jump. It is a leap of faith that turns into an exhilarating thrill!
After the first jump, it gets much easier when you know you can trust the line to hold your weight. The more you zip line the less scary it will be.
Zip-lining Tip #1- Check The Reviews
Although zip lining is usually safe, I recommend checking the reviews of the company before visiting. This is one of the most important zip-lining tips to insure an awesome time. See if people had a fun experience and if there were any safety concerns. The reviews will let you know.
Zip-lining Tip #2 – Listen to the Instructor
The zip-line tour instructor will give you safety instructions before heading out and sometimes on each different zip-line. Make sure to pay attention to what they say.
Zip-lining Tip #3 – Know The Weight Limit
Every zip-line tour will have a weight limit and they vary between companies. It’s going to be frustrating and possibly embarrassing if you don’t check this out ahead of time. They will not let you zip-line if you are above the weight limit.
The same goes for being too small as well. There is a minimum weight, so if bringing kids check their weight beforehand.
Zip-lining Tip #4 – What to Wear
My main tip for clothing is to dress comfortably. And maybe something that can get a little dirty. The straps go around your waist and legs, so form fitting is good too.
Also, dress for the weather. If it’s hot, shorts and tees are fine. For the winter, I would suggest leggings and or jeans and a sweatshirt.
Closed toe shoes are required for most companies. Athletic shoes are best, because most of the time there will be walking involved in the tour as well.
Zip-lining Tip #5 – What Not to Wear
This will vary depending on the zip-line tour, but most will not allow scarves, long necklaces or dangly earrings. Sandals or flip flops will not be allowed during the zip-line tour either.
Zip-lining Tip #6 – Wear Gloves
This deserves its own tip, because it’s that important! Sometimes you need to grab the line and gloves will save your hands! Especially if your zip-line includes a ropes course.
Zip-lining Tip #7 – Bring a Phone Case
Now this will vary based on the zip-line tour company you choose to visit. If they allow it bring, a waterproof phone case that hangs on your neck. This is an easy way to video while zip-lining with out having to worry about dropping your phone.
If they don’t allow this, you can wear a GoPro and record the whole thing! Or most companies will offer pictures or a video of your experience for a price.
