Houma's House

Where is Houma’s House?

Houma’s House is located along the Mississippi River in Louisiana on what is known as River Road. It’s between Baton Rouge and New Orleans.

The exact location is 40136 Highway 942 Darrow, LA 70725

History of Houma’s House:

The house was originally built in 1774 as a small two story home. Over the years, different owners added to the original to create what it is today.

The plantation was one of hundreds along the Mississippi that produced sugar cane.

During the house tour, the guide will go into more detail on the different owners and how they remodeled the home. This house holds many cool historical artifacts.

The current owner, Kevin Kelly, bought the mansion in 2003 from an auction. He spent time restoring the house and gardens before reopening for tours. This is his private residence.

When to Visit?

The Home and Gardens are open 7 days a week from 9:00am – 7:00pm most of the year. They close on Christmas and New Years Day.

The first house tour starts at 9:30am and the last tour starts at 7:00pm.

There are three restaurants on property! From casual to fine dining, they serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. Very convenient because there’s not many close options. For more info on the dining options, click HERE.
