This is a great way to still connect with extended family and friends in 2020. I’ve created a list of fun virtual Christmas games that include family friendly versions and adult only.

These virtual Christmas games will be great for a game night or as part of a virtual party / get together. Check this post for virtual Christmas party ideas.

For games that need prizes, I recommend digital gift cards. They can be sent immediately and customized to the winner if needed.

Christmas BINGO

Find or make a Christmas BINGO template. Email to the guests before the party. Great for kids and adults! May also use a regular bingo set and call out numbers.

Christmas Scavenger Hunt

This can be played a couple different ways. Create a list of Christmas themed items. Email / text all the players at the start of the video chat. Set a timer and see who can find the most items. Can have different categories: Around the house, online, on phone, etc. Must screenshot for proof. Can also have items worth different points depending on difficulty.

Another way is to start the video chat and go through each item individually. Say the item and then everyone runs off to find it. Whoever gets the item first wins that round.

Examples:

  • Photo with Santa
  • Christmas Train
  • Favorite Christmas Gift
  • Wear an Ugly Christmas Sweater
  • Christmas Mug
  • Lick a Candy Cane
  • White Beard
  • Family Pic with Matching Pajamas
  • Nativity Scene
  • Elf on The Shelf

Would You Rather

This can be a great ice breaker game to get everyone talking. If you’ve never played this before it’s super simple. Each question has two choices and you pick the one that you prefer. There’s no winner just a great way to get to know each other better. You can make it more challenging by guessing what the other will choose. That would be really fun for a couples party.

Family Friendly Examples: Would You Rather?

  • Receive 10 small presents or 1 big present
  • Make a snow angel or have a snowball fight
  • Ride on Santa’s Sleigh or the Polar Express
  • Have pointy Elf ears or a red nose that lights up
  • Wear Santa’s red suit or Buddy’s Elf suit to school

Adult Examples:

  • Spend Christmas in NYC or At home
  • Cook the Christmas meal or Clean the dishes
  • Have snow everyday in December or no snow for Christmas
  • Be naughty or be nice
  • Work on Thanksgiving or work on Christmas

Christmas Charades

One of my favorite virtual Christmas games! Create a list of 40 – 45 different Christmas themes. Divide list among the number of players. Send a different list to each player before the video chat. This will help to prevent cheating. Play like normal. Act out each Christmas theme without using your voice or pointing to objects.

Examples:

  • Silver Bells
  • 3 Wise Men
  • Christmas Caroling
  • Elf on the Shelf
  • Snowball Fight
  • Christmas Tree
  • Candy Canes
  • Letter to Santa
  • Ice Skating
  • Drinking Hot Cocoa

The Naughty List (AKA Never Have I Ever)

The Christmas version. Create a list of 10 Naughty Christmas things. Hold up 10 fingers and each player lowers one if it applies to them. Player with the most fingers held up at the end wins. Adult version can be made into a drinking game.

Never Have I Ever Family Friendly Examples:

  • Built a snowman
  • Tried eggnog
  • Built a homemade gingerbread house
  • Went ice skating
  • Tried fruitcake
  • Participated in Secret Santa
  • Seen a Nutcracker performance

The Naughty List Adult Examples:

  • Don’t believe in Santa
  • Bought a present last minute
  • Knocked over a Christmas tree
  • Know a naughty Christmas Jingle
  • Pretended to like a gift
  • Re-gifted a present
  • Cleaned up the area before the video chat

What’s in Your Phone -Christmas Edition

Very easy to play and all you need is a cell phone. Create a list of 30 items that can be found in a cell phone. Each item will have a point value. The person with the most points wins.

Example:

  • Picture with Santa +5 points
  • Most Contacts +5 points
  • Least Contacts +3 points
  • Picture with snow +1 point
  • Most Pictures +5 points
  • Emojis that have recently been used: Christmas tree, gift, Santa, snowflake, snowman, etc. +1 point each
  • Christmas Audio book +3 points
  • Holiday ringtone +1 point
  • Christmas picture of your cat or dog +3 points
  • Santa Tracker App +2 points

Christmas Pictionary

Similar to Christmas Charades, but each player will have to draw the prompt instead of acting it out. Create a list of Christmas prompts. Use the whiteboard on video chat to draw out each prompt. The other players guess while the prompt is being drawn. Can be played individually or on teams.

Examples:

  • Jingle Bell Rock
  • Eggnog
  • Decorating the tree
  • Wrapping gifts
  • Building a snowman
  • Nativity scene
  • The Grinch
  • Night Before Christmas
  • Cookies and milk
  • A Charlie Brown Christmas

Psych

This is an app based game that my kids love! And the best part is it’s free. Unfortunately there is not a Christmas version I’m aware of. Everyone would need to download this app. A prompt comes up and everyone answers it. The goal is for your answer to be chosen. Geared to older teens and adults. It’s similar to Apples to Apples and Cards Against Humanity.
