More Reasons To Visit Callaway Gardens During The Spring:

1. All The Azaleas!!!

I absolutely love azaleas, so this was my favorite part of the gardens! There is an Overlook Azalea Garden Trail near the entrance. This has a gorgeous view of the lake with hundreds of azaleas along the trail.

Further into the gardens, is The Callaway Brothers Azalea Bowl. It has over 4,000 azaleas!! There are over 700 different varieties of azaleas to see with different peak bloom times throughout the spring. This area has a pretty gazebo to rest and take in the scenery.

2. Cecil B. Day Butterfly Center

The butterfly center at Callaway Gardens is impressive! It is one of the largest tropical butterfly conservatories in North America! The center includes a transformation station, the conservatory and outside butterfly gardens.

The transformation station includes glass cabinets where you can watch the emergence of the butterflies.

The conservatory inhabits 1,000 or more adult butterflies depending on the time of year. There are 50 to 100 different species of butterflies that live in the tropical conservatory.

Outside the conservatory, the gardens include plants that attract native butterflies to the area. During the spring, they also have special topiaries and beautiful trails nearby.

3. The Boathouse

I absolutely love getting out on the water whenever possible. The boathouse is where you can rent canoes or kayaks by the hour to roam around on Mountain Creek Lake. The lake is a good size, so an hour is the perfect amount of time to spend paddling out there.

4. Ida Cason Callaway Memorial Chapel

This cute chapel is nestled in the woods on the edge of Falls Creek Lake. The chapel is open to visitors when not in use for events. The stain glass windows in the chapel are absolutely stunning!

During the summer and Christmas season, non-denominational church services are held here every Sunday morning at 9:00 AM. Organ concerts are held each weekend on Saturdays and Sundays from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM. The chapel is also used for small weddings ceremonies.

5. The Walking & Hiking Trails

Callaway Gardens has over 10 miles of scenic walking and hiking trails. After being indoors for most of the winter, spring is a great time to be outside and enjoying the fresh air! These trails make it super easy to be submersed into beautiful nature. I wish I would have had more time to hike all the trails. Maybe next time!
